Electromagnetic induction is the process of generating an electromotive force (EMF) by changing the magnetic field through a conductor. The phenomenon of electromagnetic induction was discovered by Michael Faraday in 1831 and is the basis for the functioning of many electrical devices such as transformers, generators, and motors.
Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction:
Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction states that the magnitude of the EMF induced in a circuit is proportional to the rate at which the magnetic field changes through the circuit. This law can be mathematically expressed as:
EMF = -dΦ/dt
where EMF is the electromotive force, Φ is the magnetic flux through the circuit, and t is time. The negative sign indicates that the induced EMF is always in such a direction as to oppose the change in the magnetic field that caused it.
