Class 12 Evolution is the biological process through which species of living organisms gradually change over time, typically through natural selection, resulting in the formation of new species. The theory of evolution was first proposed by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace in the 19th century, and it has since become a cornerstone of modern biology.
One of the most important sources of genetic variation that fuels evolution is mutation, which is a change in the DNA sequence of an organism's genes. Mutations can occur spontaneously or as a result of exposure to environmental factors such as radiation or chemicals. When mutations occur in the germ cells (sperm or egg), they can be passed on to offspring and become part of the genetic makeup of the next generation.
